Junior Filmmakers Workshops

Today’s adults and students, now more than ever, use visual media to communicate at home, work and university and in social settings. Video has become an integrated part of all our lives in one way or another. YOU CREW workshops, led by a professional instructor, are designed to stimulate observation, analysis and communication using the English Language.

Documentary Filmmaking in the English Language

These courses are a hands-on experience in filmmaking ‘on location’.

Every course will be unique because every film is different.

The crew will be rotated on a daily or half daily basis giving each student a chance to experience and experiment with different roles. Every student will, at some point during the shoot take on the role of Director, Sound Recordist, Camera Operator, Continuity, Follow Focus, Assistant, Grip, Location Manager, Transport Manager, and Runner.

Each of these roles carries its own responsibility and is essential to the efficient running of a film crew.

All aspects of the filming process are covered by the students. These include:

Pre-production

  • Having an input into the script and scriptwriting.
  • The use and a working knowledge of the kit-workshops will be carried out prior to shooting.
  • Locations for shooting and the reasons for their selection will be debated.

Shooting

  • Basic Direction hints and tips will be supplied by the accompanying, supervising Director/Director of Photography.
  • The language and the mystery of making films will be explained.
  • On set discipline and etiquette will also be explained.

Post Production

  • Editing (optional) This takes place after the course.

These courses are designed to give English Language Students the opportunity to practice and hone their vocabulary and understanding of the English Language in a creative working environment that has a purpose.

Filmmaking can be enjoyable and exciting, particularly on a foreign location. Working as a team and accepting the responsibility of the various role changes will be beneficial in future work situations…And we can all have a lot of fun in an exciting City.
